New Rates for 2021 for Business, Medical, and Charitable Miles

The IRS recently released mileage rates and, yes, those rates have decreased again for 2021.  Some rates to note:

  • Business use - for a car, van, pickup truck, or panel truck, the optional standard mileage rate for 2021 will be $.56 per mile (down from $.575 per mile in 2020).  This is also the maximum rate that an employer can reimburse an employee without substantiating the actual expense incurred.
  • Medical care - driving is deductible at $.16 per mile.
  • Charitable expense - remains at $.14 per mile.
